Shame Spiral Weekend Extravaganza…

Let’s step away from the fabulosity of The Gilded Closet’s daily goings-on so that we may reflect on Portland’s 2009 Queer Pride, block-party bash. This years theme, United We Stand, was especially meaningful because of the mix of elation and disappointment for the gay community and all those that stand with us relating to this years wins and losses in the fight for equality. We felt elation with five additional states granting  equal marriage rights to same-sex couples, but profound disappointment with the California Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Proposition 8,  which denies marriage equality to same-sex couples in that state. We can only continue the fight in 2010, but we hope that those of us that oppose us will open their hearts and accept the change that is upon us.

From our high-in-the-sky suite at the Ace Hotel, right on down to the deep depths of the gayest street in Portland,  Oregon’s queerest and dearest leaped out onto the Stark Street Block Party to drink Absolut cocktails, laugh to Lady Bunny’s hilarious routine, and get their groove on to the dancalicious Lady GaGa (the latest and greatest non-gay gay sensation!)!

For those of you that didn’t make it, check out what you missed…

Down with Proposition 8! Good-bye to the Defense of Marriage Act. Marriage Equality in 2010!

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
